Guess who just spent $1000 on an ugly-ass overpriced Alienware laptop?

This guy.

It's about time I got around to upgrading. I don't have the time or know-how to build a desktop (not to mention I need mobility right now) and I really want to be able to play games, so I figured why not a "gaming" laptop.

Assembling a PC is actually quite easy. So easy in fact, that there are several short guides to doing so that will even help you pick out your parts. When you buy alienware, you are buying an overpriced and underpowered dell propaganda. You are paying for a name with pretty "meh" looking case. It's similar to buying a pair of jeans that retail at about 200 dollars. You could have gotten a better laptop for less than equal to the price that you paid for the alienware. And you could have gotten a vastly superior desktop.

Desktop is out of the picture right now since I'll be moving twice in the next two months. I suppose I should have bought a more reasonable laptop, like an Acer or something, hell even a Razer, but I don't regret buying an Alienware at all. Money isn't an issue, I literally have nothing else to spend it on. Some day I'll build my own PC but for now this Alienware works extremely well and can play any game I download on Steam, and that's all I wanted. Plus I enjoy playing around with the lights; is that a crime? No it is not, not at all.

I never stated that it is a crime. I'm just stating that you overpaid for an inferior product that will be obsoleted quickly. That is all.

The only real downside that I've seen so far is overpaying, but like I said I have plenty of money and nothing to spend it on (literally no monthly expenses) so that's not even a downside for me. I don't think it's inferior (it's been able to play every single game I've tried so far at max graphics with good FPS) and I don't think it will be obsolete any time soon, especially since I prefer slightly older games.

You're just mad that I have money to waste on cool gimmicks

No expenses? At home college student who gets rides from mom?

Military, no car, no phone, free month of Netflix, etc

Makes sense. Not much of a social life either I would warrant. But if you're living in a cramped barracks I would agree with the decision to purchase a laptop over a desktop. Although you can get mini cases, the laptop would still be more convenient.

Actually my social life has been picking up here at tech school; there are a lot of cool people in my class who don't let me sit in my room all day. The dorms actually have plenty of room (I'm Air Force) so space won't be an issue once I'm finally at my permanent duty station.
